Parents,
With the introduction of the Next Generation initiative, your student will have a Chromebook checked out to them. This sheet will provide more information about repair and optional device insurance for their Chromebook.
Students will be given instruction and training on safety and best practices with their issued device. With good care, damage and repair should be minimal. However, damage or failure may still happen. If a device stops working and the problem comes from normal use and wear with the device, repair will be covered with district resources. However, if the device is damaged due to the actions of the student, the repair or replacement is the responsibility of the student and family. This would include water damage, dropping the Chromebook, impact inside a backpack, loss, theft, and many other accidental issues.
In the event of accidental damage or loss of device, there are two options for students and families:
First, families can sign up for a device insurance plan through a private company we have partnered up with called School Device Coverage. They are a national device insurance organization that works with school districts all over the country.
For a charge of $34 your device is fully covered for the entire school year with no deductible. *Damaged, lost or stolen power bricks are not covered by insurance.
Information for enrolling in this plan is on the other side of this flier. It is the responsibility of the family to enroll if you choose this option. You will need the device serial number found on the bottom of the device.
Families need to sign up for insurance before October 31st if they choose this option.
Second, families can plan to pay for damages if they occur. The breakdown of charges are below. These will be standardized charges regardless of the age of the Chromebook.
Damaged or lost charger = $30
Damaged but repairable Chromebook = $50
Destroyed, lost, or stolen Chromebook = $150
Willful Destruction = $340
If you would like more information about the insurance program, there is information on their website.
